The Chi field is the key as to why this form of Qigong is so incredibly effective. The essence of this form of qigong - Zhineng Qigong is the understanding and practical application of the chi field. Dr, Pang Ming's premise was that each of us has a certain amount of innate ability (say a candle's worth) as you put all of those candles together they create a vast amount of light which we can all learn to access.
Deborah KNOWS the reality of the Chi Field, having been taught it very early in her Qigong journey:
Even though she has studied with great Qigong masters, she credits her youngest son with being her greatest qigong teacher. Why? Because, when he was critically sick , she could not be in China, in the Center founded by Dr. Pang, she had to learn to bring the Chi field to where she was - in a hospital in Phoenix Arizona. The situation enabled her to learn and apply far more than would have been possible under normal circumstances.
The following is a quote from her book " Aloha Qigong" subtitle - "Practice of the Heart".
"Then, for a while, my journey became very intense and I learned SO much.
My young son (age 6) got cancer (with only a 0.02% chance of survival) which made me, as a mother, delve deep, deep, deep as I learned how to access qi, connecting with every fiber of my being to the chi field, taking my qigong journey to a whole different level.
During this formative time in my qigong journey, I came to understand not simply the power of an individual person, in this case a mother, but the incredible power of a field of energy - the power of the chi field, which can be accessed by each one of us. I had only been practicing Zhineng Qigong for a little over a year when my son went into medical crisis. I had been given certification to teach just three months earlier and I really knew very little, other than the fact that it worked
Alex was diagnosed with leukemia and had barely stabilized from the initial crisis, when the doctors needed to put in a port-a-cath under the skin, this meant that he needed surgery and was to be the first time that I had been separated from him. His health was still extremely fragile, he had crisised and barely survived just a few days before. With leukemia, the normal blood cells are crowded out by the cancer cells, so platelets (the clotting cells) and red blood cells were in short supply in his body. His skin was white, his lips were even whiter, there was virtually no color in his face.
I was scared, and, at that time, desperation was a very good teacher.
His family was with him, me, his dad, his brothers and sister, we were all with him in the room before he went into the surgery, each of us barely containing the unspoken truth, as we looked at his pale face, that we may never see him alive again.
In great desperation, with my eyes closed, I reached to where I knew the chi field was the strongest – energetically, with my mind, heart and soul, I reached through the Earth, connecting with the Medicine-less hospital in China.
With absolute focus, born from the love of a mother, I reached into that palpable energy and I brought it into the hospital room. I felt the presence of all of the people, I felt the power of what happened on a daily basis there. I felt the powerful chi field fill the room where we stood.
As I opened my eyes, I looked at the face of my son. His cheeks were rosy, with a healthy blush and his lips were red and vibrant looking. The rest of his family had stood in amazement as they watched the color infuse his beautiful face.
I knew he would survive the surgery, I knew he would be O.K. and I knew I was not alone."
The Chi Field at the Huaxia Zhineng Training Center in China
(it can be accessed at any time from anywhere)
At the medicine-less hospital, the practice of Zhineng Qigong was being utilized by approximately 7,000 people at the same time. The field created at the Qi Center in China, was a powerful field of energy filled with positive information of wellness, joy and “miracles” of healing.
The participants at the center were not referred to as 'patients', but as students. There is a huge difference in these two terms. A patient implies some-one who is sick and who needs help from someone who knows more than they do. With the term 'patient', there is a degree of dis-empowerment.
By using the term 'student', personal empowerment is implied. You are no longer helpless, but are treated with the respect of someone learning a self-healing art.
This art is available equally to everyone. It didn't matter that one student was a poor farm worker and another was an official dignitary. As students, everyone was equal.
Following is a description of what it was like at the Huaxia Qigong Center:
“Upon arrival at the center, the students lose all the fears and anxieties they had at the hospitals. The teachers treat the students like members of the family and the first words they say to the students are, 'Now that you have arrived, all is well!'
There is only celebration, laughter and best wishes all around, 'your sickness is gone, you are fine now and you have completely recovered.'
Students are also encouraged to create a pleasant environment, a happy state of mind, always thinking, speaking and acting on the bright side, thus immersing oneself in an environment of extraordinary healing. With everyone working and living as one, a strong Hunyuan chi field is created. One of the key techniques of Zhineng Qigong is building a chi field for teaching, healing and practicing.
Creating an atmosphere that allows every student to live in the midst of joy is another secret of Zhineng qigong.
The center requires that the students master up their minds to do three things: eat well, sleep well and practice well. What they eat is the Hunyuan meals that have been blessed with good information from the teachers.
In all the mass activities, everyone gathers around without any differentiation of status and roles, not even age or gender, only a Qi field that is full of laughter; laughter that laughs away all sicknesses.”
In the Center in China, the thinking of people began to change just by how they were greeted. They were often coming at the last stage of their life, having been given no chance of recovery. As they arrived at the Center, the whole atmosphere exuded positive energy, joy, laughter and hope.
The field is also infused with specific information – “All meridians are open”, “Blood and Qi are plentiful”, “All illness is gone from me”, “I am healthy now”.
This information was easy to access and as soon as the students arrived at the center, their limitations began to fade away. Being greeted in a positive, empowering atmosphere, enabled the brain patterns to begin the process of change, allowing for the possibility of recovery.
Did everyone survive? Of course not, but a vast number of people did. Many survived, who would not otherwise have done so, and those who died, passed in a more peaceful, empowered way.
If we are positive and happy and if we don't connect to problems, (if we don't identify with the sickness), it is easier to recover. The atmosphere in China at the center, helped to facilitate this. The students didn't focus on being ill, the whole atmosphere encouraged wellness. The student quarters were beautifully kept, with positive sayings on the walls. The food was elegantly presented and was filled with qi energy. People encouraged and uplifted one another.J
The Qi Center is no longer in existence in its original form, there is no longer a center with 7,000 people all practicing together. Due to political circumstances, the hospital disbanded and the teachers dispersed, many of them returning to their villages to teach. However, the power of the established chi field did not get lost, it simply changed form. And now, some of those teachers are opening their own centers – Master Liu Jianshe being one. The energy is still there for each one of us to access. In the chi field there is no time, there is no separation, the chi field is always available for us to access.
We can create the same energy whenever we practice. Whenever we begin our practice we 'hook up' to that palpable, powerful, refined loving energy.
Hooking into the chi field amplifies our positive intention and it also amplifies the intention for each one of us. The field is full of information, unlimited information. All of the information in the universe is there for us to access.
Trust that you can get the knowledge you need from the universe.
As you bring in positive thoughts, expansive thoughts, gradually any old, limited thinking becomes smaller and smaller until it disappears. We are not getting rid of the bad – we are just thinking new things, allowing for new patterns – everything is good.
Everything is possible!
Setting the chi field using the method brought by Luke Chan
For simplicity's sake and to facilitate a fast, beginning understanding of the Chi Field, I want to begin our explanation and understanding with the teaching that was first brought to the West by Master Luke Chan. Luke Chan was the first master authorized by Dr. Pang Ming to bring Zhineng Qigong to the West. No-one until this point had been allowed to teach the form outside of China, until its effectiveness was proven over many years of research. This was in 1995 and it was how I was initially taught to access the Chi field.
When Luke first introduced this form of Qigong to the West, he called it Chi-Lel Qigong and he simplified the setting of the chi field while keeping it's expansive nature.
So ..... with a willingness to be open, let us connect to the Chi Field. Trust in the possibility! Don't forget that it is not so long ago that we thought the world was flat!
In accessing the Chi field, you allow an expansion, a deep connection to all that is. Expanding so that you and the Universe become one.
Sit on the front third of your chair, with the feet firmly on the floor. By not slouching in the chair, your spine is straight and aligned.
EXPANSION.
Look straight forwards, at the horizon.
(Imagine your eyes penetrating through all obstacles)
Then, slowly close your eyes, bringing your vision inwards.
Feel the top of the head expanding up towards the blue sky,
your feet expanding through the Earth to the blue sky on the other side.
Feel the front of your body expanding towards the horizon,
the back of your body expanding towards the horizon,
the left side of your body expanding all the way to the horizon
and the right side of your body expanding all the way to the horizon.
From six directions, expanding …..
expanding until you fill the entire Earth,
expanding until you fill the whole Solar system (Our Sun, our moon, our planets).
Expand and feel yourself fill the whole galaxy,
expand … filling the whole Universe.
Expand further, into pure Chi, pure energy, pure love,
into a place of absolute harmony and oneness,
into unlimited potential.
Connect with all the teachers and Masters,
Feel loved and supported, limitless and expansive.
Now, bring that energy deep into your body,
allow it to permeate into every cell, illuminating every part of your being,
So that you are harmonized with Qi
Harmonized with Qi.
Try this meditation a few times, expanding into blue sky and bringing blue sky into the body; expanding into the stars and bringing them into the body, expanding beyond all of that, into absolute peace, and bringing it into the body.
Once you are used to the feeling of expansion, try expanding from every direction at once. This may be more natural for many people. The expansion is really from all directions at the same time, more like a sphere, expanding exponentially in every direction.
The meditation will be different for each one of us, as we are all unique individuals. Some of us are visual and will 'see' blue sky. Some of us are more tactile and we will 'feel' an expansion. Some of us will have no sensation at all and will need to use our imaginations to think bigger. But basically, as you start, think bigger, be expansive, whatever your experience.
The Chi field is a place of absolute harmony, of oneness with all of creation. It is a place of unlimited possibilities, which is easy for all of us to access. This field is universal – no matter what your belief system. In the field, there is no separation, so it will enhance and deepen your own understanding, not contradict it in any way.
Setting the chi field using the eight phrases
(as originally taught by Dr. Pang Ming)
There are eight phrases developed by Dr. Pang Ming to set the chi field. The frequency of tone in the Chinese words is very powerful, as is the meaning of the words themselves. There is a deeper explanation of the eight phrases, their meaning and how to apply them in my book, "Aloha Qigong", Practice of the Heart.
Setting the Chi field with Dr. Pang Ming's words:
"Raise Baiwei, entire body is centered
Slowly close eyelids, withdraw vision inward.
Head relax, chest and back relax,
waist relax, legs relax,
Entire body relax.
Ding Tian Li Di
Head touches sky, feet stand on Earth.
Use your mind intent to visualize your head touching the sky,
your feet standing on the Earth.
You are the only person between Heaven and Earth.
Visualize yourself becoming bigger and taller.
Xing Song Yi Chong
Body relaxes, mind expands
Relax the front of your body, relax the back of your body.
Also relax both sides of your body.
Following the relaxation of your body,
your mind intent feels the space around you,
going outwards to reach the entire country
to reach the horizon.
Wai Jing Nei Jing
Outside is respectful and inside is quiet.
The inside feeling is serene,
the outside appearance is respectful.
Practicing gong transforms your mind and body.
It changes the course of your life
This is a very noble endeavor
We should treat it with respect.
Xin Cheng Mao Gong
Mind is clear and appearance humble.
Your mind is like a volume of clear water – very serene.
It can illuminate yourself making you transparent.
Your mind and body become more focused and humble.
Yi Nian Bu Qi
Be serene and quiet
No distracting thoughts.
Shen Zhu Tai Kong
Think space.
Use your mind intent to connect with the blue sky above your head,
the blue sky is endless.
Connect yourself to that empty space.
Your mind becomes empty, spiritual and serene.
Shen Yi Zhao Ti
Think body.
Bring back your mind intent from the blue sky.
From the empty space, the blue sky returning into your body.
This is called blue sky coming inside.
Nature's Wan Yuan Qi is coming into your body
simultaneously to fill you with chi.
And your entire body is filled with chi and blood.
